Preparatory drawing for Caprice 76. Is your worship... well, as I say... hey! Be careful...
There are notable differences between the preparatory drawing and the engraving. Goya modified this first sketch to obtain the burlesque scene that is depicted in the etching. Firstly, a fourth figure appears on the far left, a beggar leaning on his crutch. On the other hand, the witness to the scene, in the background, has lost his three-cornered hat, thus changing his expression. And the figure on the left is depicted in the engraving wearing a hat with large wings. All these elements contribute to give the final composition of the print a balance, a density in the distribution of the masses, which the simple preparatory drawing is far from possessing.
